The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, has presented educational learning materials to seven secondary schools in the South-South and South-East geo-political zones.

Dr Dakuku Peterside, Director-General of NIMASA, represented by Mrs Ronke Thomas, Head, Planning, Research and Data Management Services, made the presentation to the schools on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

Peterside said the donation of the materials was to support education and development in the country.

“It is expected that this will further inspire the students to greater heights and excellence that will help them build a career in the maritime sector and aid in unlocking of the vast potential in the Nigeria’s blue economy.

“The reach out to schools is in addition to what we have been doing in the Internally Displaced People (IDP)’s camp.

“And we realised that the education sector is very key in any country, and because the children are the future of the country,’’ he said.

According to Peterside, the donation is being done simultaneously across the six geo-political zones in the country.

“A few schools have been selected from some states in the various geo-political zones for even spread; and more schools will be receiving theirs on other days after Tursday’s ceremony.

“Items available for distribution include desktop computers, laptops, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), white boards, exercise books, biros, and pencils.

“Others are white board pens, scientific calculators, textbooks for English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Economics among others,’’ he added.

The NIMASA director-general said that the schools chosen were expected to put the materials to judicious use to achieve the set goals.

Among the seven schools were Okrika Grammar School, Comprehensive Secondary School (CSS), Opobo, Royal Court School, Rumuekini and Community Secondary School, Ubima in Rivers.

Others were Umuariam Secondary Technical School in Imo, Abayi Girls Secondary School in Abia and Modebe Secondary School, Onitsha, Anambra.

Mrs Beatrice Epelle, Principal of CSS Opobo, commended NIMASA for the presentation of the educational materials to the schools and urged other government establishments to do same.
