The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ekiti State government to provide aeronautical meteorological services at the Ekiti International Cargo Airport.
Under the scope of the MoU which has a two-year duration in the first instance, NiMet and Ekiti state government will collaborate to provide adequate equipment to provide standard aeronautical meteorological services to Ekiti Cargo Airport, and also establish a good working relationship to ensure safe flight operations at the airport.
The provision of meteorological services in aviation is essential to furthering the NiMet’s mandate. For Ekiti state, the execution of the MoU will enable safe operations of flight services at the cargo airport, in line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and World Meteorological Organization (WMO) standards.
Signing the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, 6th November 2024, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike said that NiMet welcomes partnership with state governments as the agency cannot succeed without such partnerships. “We thank His Excellency, Mr Biodun Oyebanji for his leadership and for recognizing the importance of meteorological data in aviation development. The signing of this MoU signals a strong partnership and new beginning between NiMet and Ekiti state”, Prof. Anosike said.
Responding, the Secretary to the Ekiti state government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro thanked Professor Anosike for the warm reception accorded her and her colleagues and promised that the state government will fulfill its obligations in the MoU.
Barr. Shola Gabriel, Director of Legal Services at NiMet, and Mr. Tunde Balogun, Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Ministry of Environment witnessed the MoU signing.
