The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with Gombe State University to optimize the NYSC North-East Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Centre.

The agreement was signed at the NYSC North-East Skill Acquisition Center in Gombe State.

The NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Muhammad Kaku Fadah, who was represented at the event by the Director, Legal Services,. Barrister Ibrahim Tijani said the decision to partner with the university was informed by the Scheme’s desire to optimize the benefits of the NYSC SAED Centre.

He said. “Apart from Corps Members, for whom the center was originally conceived, the partnership will enable us accommodate the training of students of the State University and other youths of the host community, in line with our commitment to deepening the impact of the Scheme on the Society”.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Gombe State University, Professor Aliyu Usman El-Nafaty appreciated the NYSC for agreeing to partner with the Institution.

He said the Skill Acquisition Center would be used to train Gombe State University undergraduates on vocational skills in order to equip them with the necessary skills for self-reliance before graduation.

Meanwhile, the NYSC Director of Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, Mr Omotade Ayodele, said the Gombe Skill Centre; one of Access bank’s landmark projects for Nigerian youths would equip them with different skill sets.

He added that the edifice which was handed over to the Scheme in 2018 will breed a new set of entrepreneurs that is poised to change the narrative of the youth in the production sector of Nigerian economy.

He added that through this, Corps Members at the end of their national service and other youths will become employers of labour and also contribute to the Gross Domestic product of the country.
