The Director General, of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has called on Corps Members to dedicate effort in community development and contribute positively in national growth.

Ahmed gave this charge in his address to Corps Members at Anambra State Orientation Camp, Mbaukwu, and Ebonyi State Orientation Camp in Afikpo.

He urged them to study the needs of their host communities, seek for support from the residents and initiate laudable projects that would improve the standards of living of their hosts.

The Director General also warned them against embarking on unauthorized and night journeys but added that they should obtain permission from the NYSC and their employers if it becomes mandatory for them to travel.

“Avoid night travelling because of its dangers. Don’t board vehicles by the roadside and ensure you go to designated motorparks to board vehicles while travelling”, he said.

General Ahmed further enjoined the Corps Members to make long-lasting friends and relationships during the service year, adding that they should strive to bond together and foster national unity and integration, the reason for which the NYSC was founded.

He encouraged them to use the service year to plan for a better future and avoid every form of social delinquencies that could jeopardize their future.

While presenting the camp situation report to the Director General, the Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma stated that all the 1,011 Corps Members comprising 412 males and 599 females had voluntarily joined the various camp committees and were participating actively in the day-to-day running of the camp.

Similarly, her Ebonyi State counterpart, Mrs Foluke Oladehinde informed General Ahmed that 535 males and 581 females took the Oath of Allegiance as administered by Hon. Justice Nicholas Nwode on behalf of the State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Elvis Ngene.

“All the Corps Members are well behaved and have adapted to the regimented life in camp”, she said.
