Through the philanthropic efforts of donor agencies and multinational organisations the LMI has been able to train about 700 Lady Mechanics.
The Initiative celebrated its 10th anniversary in Lagos with corporate support from OANDO which has contributed significantly toward sustenance of the program under its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Also MacArthur Foundation which is the first to take the LMI free training programs to the northern Nigeria is currently sponsoring 80 girls/women on skill acquisition.
OANDO marketing is promoting the initiative using its motor oil flagship, “Oleum” to deliver advanced engine formula which has 100% local content.
Speaking at the 10th anniversary program, the initiator of th LMI Sandra Aguebor, said that the initiative has prompted interest of women in the automotive engineering field.
Aguebor said the overwhelming interest informed the launch of the Association of Lady Automobile Technicians of Nigeria (ALAT).
“The launch of ALAT is an unprecedented milestone in the Nigeria and Africa’s automotive industry. The body will provide the platform for all female auto mechanics in Nigeria to speak with a strong voice, and form part of the decision making process in the automotive industry” she stated.
