The Ondo/Ekiti Customs Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller Morenikeji Oluyemi Bewaji, has provided free medical checkups for residents of Akure and environs on Monday, 7 October 2024.

The exercise was part of the Commands Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The initiative according to the statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Herbert Dzungwenen on 9 October, 2024 on behalf of the Customs Area Controller (CAC) Comptroller Morenikeji Bewaji is in partnership with Victri Foundation, focused on improving eye health through a campaign tagged the “Better Vision” Campaign.

The CAC stated that the programme, aimed at promoting access to essential eye care services, offered free eye examinations, screenings for glaucoma and cataracts, and discounted eye wear dispensaries.

Comptroller Bewaji stressed that the outreach was designed to support individuals with vision impairments while raising awareness of the importance of general health and eye care.

While addressing participants during the event, Comptroller Bewaji said, “This outreach is a step in the right direction towards addressing the backlog of local residents with vision impairments. We aim to provide medical support and improve the standard of eye health within the community.”

The CAC urged officers and men of the Command, along with community members, to cooperate with the medical team in order to ensure the smooth running of the event. “We are all one, and it is important we offer the needed support for such an important cause,” she added.

The campaign drew participation from various groups, including students, community members, stakeholders, and officers of the Command, all benefiting from the comprehensive eye care services provided by Victri Foundation, a health-focused organisation.
