The Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has moved to execute a joint action with traditional rulers to ensure sustainable programme of action that will discourage smuggling activities within the Command environment.

Acting Customs Area Controller DC Wale Adewole in a dedicated move to achieve the objectives visited the Aseyin of Iseyin Land, Oba (Dr.) Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III, and the Soun of Ogbomosho, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, on 12 March 2026 to rally traditional support against smuggling and boost legitimate trade.

These strategic courtesy calls align with Adewole’s stakeholder engagement plan, tapping traditional leaders’ influence to mobilize communities behind Customs mandates of revenue collection, smuggling suppression, and trade facilitation.

At Iseyin palace, Adewole thanked his hosts and highlighted traditional institutions’ role in community peace and security. He sought their help in educating residents on smuggling’s economic damage. Oba Adeyeri III praised NCS efforts and pledged palace backing to curb illegal activities and encourage lawful commerce.

In Ogbomosho, Adewole stressed partnerships for operational success, noting community buy-in is essential. Oba Olaoye called the visit timely, assuring full resident support for Customs’ anti-smuggling and trade promotion initiatives.

The visits reinforce Oyo/Osun Command’s synergy with traditional rulers as vital allies for economic stability, security, and national growth.
