The Commandant, Police College, AIG Patrick Adedeji Atayero, and Directors in the Ministry of Police Affairs signed a Ministerial Performance Contract with the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, in line with the Presidential mandate and the directive from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

The signing ceremony was held during the Sector-Wide Ministerial Performance Management System (MPMS) retreat at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Federal Secretariat, Phase III, Abuja.

The Minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia pointed out that the signing ceremony marks a crucial moment in institutionalising the Performance Management System within the Ministry of Police Affairs, in line with the Presidential Mandate and the directive from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

The Minister stated that the essential activities within the Ministry have been transformed into Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Targets, and Milestones, which will guide your performance appraisal. Y

He said, “our role is vital in enhancing National Security and promoting Peace and Prosperity in Nigeria. Your performance directly impacts the Ministry’s overall effectiveness. Excelling in your responsibilities strengthens our capacity to serve the Nigerian people. Each contribution regarding your department’s goals is crucial for the Ministry’s success”.

He warned that neither the head nor their team must hinder the Ministry’s progress, adding that low performance can abate the delivery of key projects that address urgent national issues and bolster economic growth.

According to him, “As you know, security is sacrosanct for economic growth; meaning, our Ministry plays a pivotal role in this administration. Your efforts are essential enablers for national development, and we must remain focused on our collective mission to enhance the well-being of our country”.

Gaidam posited that the Performance Management System is a key pillar of the ongoing reform in the Federal Civil Service. He noted that Performance Contracts must align with national priorities and presidential deliverables. This signing underscores our commitment to excellence and efficiency, ensuring our Ministry remains among the leading Ministries in implementing these reforms. He stressed.

The Minister said that under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Ministry has been tasked with advancing Pillar 6 of the Presidential Priorities, which focuses on “Security’’ to strengthen National Security for Peace and Prosperity.

In his presentation, the facilitator, Professor Adeyemi Ajayi, stated that the essence of the retreat is in the fulfillment of the institutionalization of the Performance Management System, noting that the signing of the contract shows commitment to the vision of the present administration and readiness to work to achieve the transformation of Nigeria.

According to him, “Whatever you achieved as directors or Chief Executives would have contributed to the achievement of the Permanent Secretary, Honourable Minister, and Mr. President’s achievements. If you failed to do your part, it will be clear that you have not achieved what you signed, and failure to act comes with consequences”.

Earlier, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Dr.  Osueke John Chidi, expressed that the Performance Management System (PMS) is vital for assessing employee performance, meeting institutional goals, and fulfilling presidential mandates within the Federal Public Service, as well as to enhance accountability and toboost motivation across the organisation.
