The Police in Lagos have arrested 65 persons at a hotel in Oko Oba area of the state for defying the lockdown order on Coronavirus pandemic.
The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Bala Elkana, disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement.
According to Elkana, the arrested persons were attending a birthday party held at 84 Park Hotel, Augusto Close, Oko Oba on April 29, 2020.
He said based on credible intelligence, operatives from Area G Command and Oko Oba Division at about 2:05pm stormed the venue of the party, arresting 65 persons.
He said the were arrested for holding a birthday party and consuming some substances suspected to be “hard/illicit drugs”.
Some of the suspects were also found in the swimming pool catching fun in total neglect of the social distancing regulations and the lockdown order.
The suspects, who are aged between 16 and 45, confessed to have left their various homes to the hotel in defiance to the sit at home order, Police said.
The Manager of the hotel was equally arrested, with the hotel sealed off by the relevant agency of the State Government.
Elkana said investigation was ongoing and the suspects will be charged to Court, adding that the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, called on residents to continue to be law abiding.
Odumosu advised parents to monitor the activities of their children, especially during this lockdown period, adding: “Together we can stop the spread of COVID-19.”
