Police Repel Attack On Facility In Imo State

Police operatives successfully repelled attack carried out in one of its stations in Imo State.

Some unidentified gunmen had attacked a Police Division in Ideato South Local Government Area, LGA, of the State using explosives on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Michael Abattam, said the attack occurred at about 0230 hours; when the gunmen in their numbers stormed the Ideato South division; shooting sporadically and throwing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) into the station.

However, he confirmed that the Police operatives in the division were able to repel the attack.

‘‘The hoodlums were immediately repelled by the Command’s tactical teams and the police operatives of the division. And in the ensuing gun duel, the hoodlums were overwhelmed by the superior fire-power of the police; resulting in several of them fleeing into the bush with various degrees of bullet injuries.

“No life or arms was lost and the detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) only caused minimal damage.”

Commissioner of Police in the State, Rabiu Hussaini called on members of the public, especially those residing in the community, to assist the Police by availing them with credible information and to report any person seen treating bullet wounds or hiding within the community, to the nearest Police station.
