Political Leaders, Stakeholders, Activists To Storm Lagos For June 12 Democracy Day Anniversary

Movement for Credible Elections, MCE in conjunction with June 12 Pro Democracy Movement of Nigeria will on Friday host Top Political Leaders and Leading Activists in the country in commemoration of this year’s June 12 Democracy Day Anniversary in Nigeria. The historic event holding in Lagos is billed to have Chief Emeka Anyaoku, GCON ( Chairman of Eminent Patriots and Former Secretary General of the Commonwealth) as Chairman, while Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Chief (Mrs) Bisi Abiola and other family members of MKO Abiola will be Special Guests of Honour

The first leg of the commemoration of the 2026 Democracy Day Event on Friday is expected to witness Special Tributes from leading activists in the country at a National Breakfast Tributes Session for Heroes and Heroines of the Nigerian Democracy taking place at MKO Abiola Democracy Centre, 43/48 Abiola Crescent off Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos starting at 9am Prompt

Some of the activists expected to pay tributes at the Breakfast include; Dr Olisa Agbakoba,SAN, Dr Usman Bugaje, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Chief Wole Olanipekun,SAN, Conrade Ayuba Wabba, Barr Femi Falana, SAN, Prof Pat Utomi, Senator Shehu Sanni, Prince Adewole Adebayo, Comrade Omoyele Sowore, Dr Gbenga Olawepo Hashim, Alhaji Shettima Yerima, Comrade Joe Ajaero of NLC, Comrade Festus Osifo of TUC, Comrade Ene Obi, Veteran Olawale Okunniyi among others

The Breakfast Tributes Session is expected to be followed immediately by a solemn Procession for Democracy to Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, where an annual National Democracy Discourse will be holding from 11am under the Theme: Reenacting the Credibility of the June 12 Elections in Nigeria in 2027.

Some of the country’s top political leaders in the country already invited to attend the Anniversary Democracy Discourse on the 2027 elections are; Mr Peter Obi, Prince Adewole Adebayo, Esq , Dr Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, Rt Hon Rotimi Ameachi, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Rt Hon Aminu Tambuwal, Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, Mr Donald Duke, Chief Dele Momodu, Dr Akeem Baba Ahmed, Amb Nkoyo Toyo, Hadjia Dr Bilikisu Magoro, Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle of IPAC, Arc Peter Agada, Dr Abduljalil Tafawa Balewa, Comrade Solomon Dalung, among others

The focus of the 2026 National Democracy commemoration will be “Electoral Acts 2026, INEC and Sanctity of the 2027 Elections” and “Poverty, Insecurity and Credible Elections in Nigeria”, as stakeholders at the anniversary ceremony shall be expected to launch a nationwide mobilization for credible elections in 2027 during the Democracy Rally

Key agenda of the MCE to be tackled by Stakeholders during the nationwide campaign are the unpopular electoral act of 2026, constant confusion foisted by judicial interference in the electoral process, immoral money politics and exclusive cost of seeking political office in Nigeria, INEC interference in the internal affairs of political parties and growing insecurity in the country that may affect the 2027 elections, among others
