Protests Along Abuja-Suleja-Kaduna Highway Over Abduction Of 12 People

Protests broke out early Monday morning as youths in Gauraka community, Niger State, barricaded the Abuja-Suleja-Kaduna Expressway following the abduction of about 12 persons in the area.

Some bandits reportedly stormed the community situated in Tafa Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State and kidnapped scores of residents in the early hours of Monday.

The residents demanded an end to incessant cases of kidnappings in the community and the need for more security of lives and properties, reports This Day.

Gauraka community is about five kilometers away from the Federal Capital City (FCT), and there are speculations that Boko Haram terrorists may have infiltrated the area.

In April, Governor Abubakar Bello announced that terrorists had hoisted their flags in some communities in the state.

Niger State with a land area of 76,363km, has witnessed a long thread of kidnapping and violent attacks in the last few months. Residents are said to be constantly living in fear with no knowledge of who may be the next victim. Source- Thisday
