Quomodo Systems Africa has called for greater investment in secure digital infrastructure as Nigeria works to bridge its digital divide, arguing that expanding internet access alone will not deliver an inclusive and resilient digital economy. The call was made by the company’s Chief Financial Officer and Head of Operations, Mrs Olufunke Tonye-Preghafi, during her keynote address at the Nigeria Information Technology Reporters Association (NITRA) Innovative & Scientific Conference held recently in Lagos.
The conference, themed “Bridging Nigeria’s Digital Divide with Scientific Innovation,’’ brought together technology journalists, policymakers and industry leaders to examine practical pathways for expanding digital access across Nigeria.
Delivering a keynote address Tonye-Preghafi, said conversations around Nigeria’s digital divide often focus on expanding access to the internet while overlooking the critical infrastructure that keeps digital services secure and available. “When we talk about Nigeria’s digital divide, the conversation often centres on connectivity. But behind every digital service is a secure network, resilient infrastructure, integrated enterprise systems and advanced cyber protection. That is where Quomodo Systems comes in,” she remarked.
She also explainedthat Nigerians’ ability to use digital financial services,communication services, and other digital solutions safely depends on continuous monitoring and protection against digital security risks. “At Quomodo Systems, we work every day to ensure that organisations remain secure,” she said. “The fact that you can wake up in the morning and find that your bank account has not been compromised is, in many cases, because companies like ours provide continuous security monitoring.”

Speaking further she said that cybersecurity and technology infrastructure have become central priorities for corporate leaders as digital risks continue to grow. She urged organisations and regulators to prioritise secure, responsible and sustainable adoption of technology as Nigeria accelerates its digital economy.
“As Nigeria accelerates its digital economy, our greatest challenge is not the speed of adopting technology, but making sure that we adopt it securely, responsibly and sustainably,” Tonye-Preghafi said. “The organisations that will lead tomorrow are not simply those that adopt technology; they are those that innovate securely, govern wisely and build resilience by design.”
Adding to the discussion during a panel session at the event, Mr Kayode Joseph, Head of Pre-Sales at Quomodo Systems Africa, highlighted the need to develop local cybersecurity talent and give young Nigerians practical pathways into the industry. “At Quomodo Systems, one of our priorities is the development of localtalent,” Joseph said. “Rather than depending solely on foreign experts, we intentionally invest in building the capacity of young Nigerians.”
Joseph also called for stronger collaboration between government, academia and the private sector to expand training, mentorship and professional opportunities for young cybersecurity practitioners, noting that developing local expertise is essential to strengthening Nigeria’s long-term cyber resilience.
