Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Managing Director Dr. Abba Aliyu has praised the appointment of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, to the agency’s governing board. The appointments were announced on monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, as part of a broader wave of 26 appointments across 10 federal agencies and commissions.

Under the new board structure, Fayose will serve as Chairman of the REA Board, while Abubakar and Makinta join as non-executive directors. Dr. Aliyu, the agency’s Director-General, along with three previously appointed executive directors, complete the board’s composition.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Dr. Aliyu commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as fitting appointments, saying the incoming directors’ combined experience would support the agency’s work expanding electricity access to rural and underserved communities. “Our visionary leader, President Tinubu, is intentional about ensuring that every Nigerian has access to reliable electricity. With these new appointments, the President has further demonstrated his keen commitment to our success,” Dr. Aliyu said.

Dr. Aliyu also pointed to Fayose’s record as Ekiti State governor, citing infrastructure projects completed during his tenure, including dual township roads, a flyover bridge, a new Governor’s Office, and several markets, which he said had a positive effect on the state’s agricultural economy and reflected a broader focus on connecting underserved communities to urban centres.

The appointments took effect immediately upon announcement.
