The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election at Ward E3 of Lagos Island Local Government Area, describing the exercise as peaceful, orderly, and reflective of internal party democracy.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who arrived at the polling venue at St. Stephens School, Lagos Island, in company of his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, at 11:44am, said the direct primary process allowed party members at the ward level to freely participate in the emergence of the party’s governorship candidate.

Speaking after casting his vote, Governor Sanwo-Olu openly declared support for his deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and expressed confidence that he would emerge as the party’s flag bearer and eventually win the governorship election during the 2027 gubernatorial polls.

He also commended the party members for turning out en masse to support Dr. Hamzat, who is the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State for the 2027 gubernatorial elections.

The Governor commended party officials from Abuja and the APC leadership for conducting the exercise peacefully and transparently.

He said the electoral officials and party representatives were on the ground to ensure a credible exercise, noting the impressive turnout of party faithful at the ward.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the atmosphere at the venue was calm and family-like despite the large crowd that gathered before noon to participate in the exercise.

Also speaking at the venue, the Chairman of the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, Hon. Alade Folawiyo, described the turnout of APC members for the governorship primary as massive.

The Council boss expressed confidence that Dr. Hamzat would consolidate the achievements of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration if elected as the next Governor of Lagos State.

He said the incumbent Deputy Governor possessed adequate experience and understanding of Lagos governance, adding that continuity in leadership would sustain ongoing infrastructural development and security improvements across the state.
