Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel and former minister of information and culture Lai Mohammed will discuss the 2027 elections, insecurity and the economy at the seventh annual lecture of Freedom Online.

The lecture will hold on September 3 in Lagos.

According to a statement by Freedom Online managing director and editor-in-chief Gabriel Akinadewo, the event will focus on insecurity and its impact on Nigeria, particularly in relation to elections.

Mr Akinadewo said the publication decided to focus on insecurity “because it has become a monster, threatening to consume the nation-state called Nigeria.”

He said the lecture would also examine questions around the 2027 general elections, including how the election would be conducted and whether its outcome would provide a foundation for Nigeria’s future.

“What does the future hold for Nigeria after the 2027 general elections? How will the election be conducted in a way that will be acceptable to all? Will the outcome lay a solid foundation for the future of the country?” Akinadewo said.

He said the conduct of politicians, security agents and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before, during and after the election would have significant consequences for Nigerians.

“We believe that actions of politicians, security agents and INEC officials, before, during and after the election will, one way or the other, decide the fate of the more than 200 million Nigerians in this geographical space. Obviously, insecurity, part of which is thuggery during elections, leads to poverty, underdevelopment and other social vices. Nigeria’s political, economic and social fabric is disintegrating because of this time bomb and the outcome of the election will go a long way to decide Nigeria’s future in global affairs”, he said.

Sanwo-Olu will serve as special guest speaker at the lecture, while Mohammed will chair the event and Daniel will be the special guest of honour.

President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and editor of Vanguard Eze Anaba will serve as chief host.
