By 2017 bonga oil field operated by oil giant Shell will be producing
210,000 barrels of oil per day from 148,000 barrels per day production as at Q3 of 2014.

The company said the new output will emanate from ‘Bonga Business Improvement Plan’ which it is driving at the moment.

“The ultimate goal is to get Bonga producing at 95% of its potential”,

“The FPSO/field is currently producing at 70/80% and we are gunning for 95%, which would mean a sustained level of 210,000BOPD” Theo Ekiyor-Katimi, the Bonga operations manager said.

The company said the  strategic journey began in the first quarter of 2014, a few months before the oil price crash.

The Bonga field is located in Nigeria’s Oil Mining Lease (OML) 118. Shell operates the lease with55 percent, ExxonMobil, TOTAL and ENI hold 20 percent, 12.5 percent and 12.5 percent respectively
