The Federal Government has reportedly extended the deadline for Nigerians to register for the National Identification Number (NIN).
The deadline for registration and linkage to SIM cards is now February 9, 2021.
This was disclosed by the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, via its verified handle on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.
The notice reads: ‘‘All Nigerians and legal residents are advised to enroll for their National Identification Number (NIN) and link them before February 9th, 2021. Please remember, NIN enrollment is free. Report extortion via email@example.com OR Call 08157691214, 08157691071.’’
The NIMC had previously disclosed that the deadline for the NIN linkage remains January 19; adding that those who were yet to enroll for the NIN had until February 9 to do so.
Furthermore, a statement released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had revealed that millions of Nigerians were yet to comply with the directive to link their NIN to their SIM cards. The statement signed by Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs; disclosed that a total of 47.8 million NINs had so far been received by the mobile operators; adding that this was at an average of three to four SIMs per subscriber.
