A new solar-powered freezer has been launched in Nigeria.
Sun King, an off-grid solar energy firm which unveiled the products is specifically
targeting households and businesses grappling with food spoilage and rising costs of running petrol and diesel generators.
The company also expanded its solar inverter systems from 2.2kVA to 30kVA, with higher-capacity installations designed for homes, schools, healthcare facilities, commercial premises and light industrial operations.
The new PowerFreeze is a standalone solar-powered refrigeration and freezing system comprising a 210-litre fridge-freezer, solar panels, an energy control unit and battery.
The system can switch between refrigeration and freezing modes, while heavy insulation and five built-in ice batteries help retain cold temperatures overnight and during periods of limited sunlight, the firm said during the launch in Lagos.
The energy control unit is powered primarily by solar energy but can also be charged from the electricity grid during prolonged periods of insufficient sunlight. It can additionally power phones, laptops and energy-efficient lighting.
Sun King, Country Business Leader, Nigeria, Lisbon Ogunsanmi, at the event said the company’s expanded inverter portfolio would enable customers to choose systems according to their energy requirements and financial capacity and subsequently increase capacity without replacing existing installations.
“Our rooftop solar range now runs from a hyper-affordable solar home system all the way to 30kVA of inverter power.
“Customers can start where their budget is, expand as they grow and stay with one company throughout. That is big energy: power that keeps up with your ambitions, whatever their scale,” Ogunsanmi said.
In addition to its existing 2.2kVA and 3.3kVA systems, the company introduced PowerHub configurations of 5kVA, 10kVA, 15kVA and 30kVA.
It said the higher-capacity systems could handle more energy-intensive requirements, including air conditioning and business operations, while the largest configurations could power schools, clinics, commercial buildings and some light industrial facilities.
Vice President, Sales, West and Central Africa, Sun King, Omoyemi Tuga, said PowerFreeze was particularly targeted at food vendors and households affected by unreliable electricity and high generator costs.
“PowerFreeze has shown clear value for the food vendors and households in Nigeria, who are already using it, particularly those dealing with food spoilage caused by unreliable power.
“For small businesses, avoiding diesel generators can materially improve margins. For families, it means less food wasted and more predictable household costs,” Tuga said.
According to the company, the freezer and inverter systems are available under its EasyBuy financing scheme, which allows customers to spread payments over an agreed period.
Under the financing arrangement, PowerFreeze is available from N120,400 monthly for 20 months, while the PowerHub Pro 5kVA starts from N304,400 monthly for 20 months.
Sun King said its service covers product design, installation, maintenance and after-sales support, with service teams operating across its coverage areas in Nigeria.
