The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has awarded Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to 23 companies for 44 products in Enugu State, reinforcing its dedication to quality assurance, consumer protection and the competitiveness of Made-in-Nigeria goods.
Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of the Director General/Chief Executive of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, the Director, South East Region, Mr. Chukwuma Lemachi Aharanwa, described the MANCAP scheme as a vital mechanism for ensuring that locally manufactured products comply with Nigerian Industrial Standards.
He explained that the certification boosts consumer confidence, strengthens the market position of Nigerian products and opens wider regional and international market opportunities for manufacturers.
Aharanwa further pointed to SON’s ongoing digital transformation, notably the Electronic MANCAP (E-MANCAP) platform and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Product Identification Scheme (SONPIS), which aim to streamline the certification process, enhance product traceability and offer better support to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
He reiterated SON’s resolve to collaborate closely with manufacturers to promote quality, standardisation and industrial growth in line with the Federal Government’s economic diversification objectives.
Representing the Enugu State Government, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade, Investment and Industry, Mr. Ifeanyi Onah, praised SON for its sustained commitment to industrial development and consumer protection through effective standardisation and conformity assessment.
He urged manufacturers to leverage Enugu State’s business-friendly environment to scale up their operations and drive economic growth, job creation and higher levels of local production.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, representatives of the certified companies pledged to uphold the quality benchmarks stipulated under the MANCAP scheme and reaffirmed their dedication to producing safe, dependable and high-quality products for Nigerian consumers.
The certificate presentation highlights SON’s ongoing effort to strengthen the national quality infrastructure, build consumer trust and enhance the competitiveness of locally manufactured products in both domestic and export markets.
