Following recalcitrance of some importers in the importation of substandard items, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, has raided the Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers’ Association, ASPAMDA, market, Trade Fair complex.
Speaking during the raid, the Market Surveillance Officer SON, Mr. Suleiman Isa, accused an importer (names withheld) of importing substandard rotor products with some else’s brand name for the past five years, lamenting that all efforts to force him to stop the illegal act failed.
He said: “We raided that place about three years ago and we took action against him. He went to court. His case could not stand and was thrown out. But unfortunately, he continued with the illegal activities.” Isa informed that before the raid, intelligence gatherings were done to identify those behind the importation and sale of substandard products in the market, assuring that action will be taken against unscrupulous businessmen step by step and sector by sector.
