The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), has introduced a products authentication scheme to help fight Products cloning and adulteration.
The scheme is scheduled to be unveiled before end of the year.

Speaking at the SON special day at the ongoing Lagos International Trade Fair (LITF), tagged: Promoting Industrialization for Economic Recovery & Sustainable Growth”, the Director General of SON, Dr. Osita Aboloma stated that this scheme which is overdue will tackle the challenge of products cloning and products adulteration, adding that, the outcome of the product authentication scheme will drive away product faking and support zero-tolerance to sub-standard and ultimately promote the image of quality certified products from Nigeria.

Aboloma who was represented by the Director, Business Support Services, SON, Mrs. Margaret Eshiett, said SON standardization activities and products Certification remains the key to improve Nigeria product competitiveness in the local and international market and for gaining global acceptance.

Aboloma noted the MSMEs must however step up their game to become the driving force of the Nigerian economy, increase employment and grow trade as SON is very committed to promoting industrialization for economic recovery and sustainable growth.

She said SON by mandate has the responsibility to promote industrialization through compliance to standards as SON uses the MANCAP Product Certification Scheme to promote certified made-in-Nigeria products.

The President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, Chief Nike Akande said SON are directly relevant to the ease of doing business in Nigeria as the menace of sub-standard products has consistently rendered the locally produced goods uncompetitive in terms of cost production and pricing.

She commended the management of SON ably led by Mr. Osita Aboloma in combating fake products and enhancement of product quality through standards, training and certifications of products and services, adding that the efforts of SON have resulted in the in the reduction of product rejections in the international market.

She urged SON to continue the fight against substandard and unwholesome products that have led to building collapses, fire outbreaks and accidents which have claimed lives and destroyed properties across the country.
