The Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) has inducted 31 Nursing Science graduates into the profession at the College Auditorium on Thursday.

In her address at the induction ceremony, The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Olatunji-Bello celebrated the graduates’ accomplishments, acknowledging their hard work and the sacrifices made by their families.

She acknowledged the values instilled in the graduates during their time at LASU, noting that they have imbibed principles of courage, integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello urged the graduates to embrace their responsibilities as future leaders in healthcare.

Speaking earlier, The Provost, Professor Olufemi Idowu encouraged the graduates to uphold the core values of LASU as they embark on their careers, whether in practice, research, education, or politics.

He stressed the importance of teamwork, personal integrity, accountability, and excellence in patient care and academic research.

“Please carry with you the core values of LASU: teamwork, respect for personal integrity, accountability, excellence in patient care, and academic research.

“Also, always show compassion in providing care to patients and their families with empathy, sensitivity, and understanding,” he advised.

The Chief Medical Director, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Professor Adetokunbo Fabanwo, commended both the College of Medicine and the University for reaching the milestone of producing the 5th batch of nursing graduates.

He expressed pride in the institution’s graduates. “The quality of graduate nurses that we have produced from this university over the years has continued to improve, and I am proud.

“From my position as the CMD of LASUTH, I take pride in assisting graduates from LASUCOM and other universities seeking appointments with us, and with what we have observed over time, LASUCOM nurses are very good,” Fabanwo said.

He raised concerns about the quality of nursing education at some other institutions, calling on the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to closely examine the standard of teaching in these universities.

He reassured the LASU graduates of the quality of their training, particularly their practical experience gained at LASUTH, stating, “The nurses we are looking for have been trained in the quality of nursing and have had their practical experience in the University Teaching Hospital.”

Meanwhile, Miss Ijaodoro-Aina Aminat OMOBOLANLE emerged as the Best Graduating nurse.
