The new Area Controller of the Tincan Island Port Command, Comptroller JA Anani, has pledged a more transparent and collaborative relationship with the media as he begins work at the command.

Speaking at his maiden engagement with journalists on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, Anani said the meeting was part of a deliberate effort to build stronger ties with stakeholders in the maritime sector. He described the media as an important partner in public communication, accountability and compliance.

According to him, journalists will be fully involved in the command’s policies, reforms, operations and achievements. He said the command would ensure the timely release of accurate information to help the press perform its duties effectively.

Anani also said the command would support the media through training, sensitisation workshops and capacity-building programmes. He explained that a well-informed press corps would improve the quality of reportage and promote deeper understanding of customs operations.

At the same time, he urged journalists to uphold high professional standards in their coverage of the command. He said responsible reporting is necessary to prevent misinformation and protect public trust.

The Area Controller said Tincan Island Port Command would continue to support the Customs modernisation drive by strengthening systems, processes and technology-based solutions that improve efficiency and trade facilitation. He added that full compliance with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 would remain central to operations under his leadership.

Anani noted that the command is already performing well in revenue generation and said the positive trend reflects the commitment of officers, improved compliance and better operational efficiency. He said the command would build on the gains and strive to improve further.

He thanked Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, for the confidence placed in him to lead the strategic command. He praised the Customs chief’s reform agenda and his drive to reposition the service for greater efficiency and global competitiveness.

Anani said the command remains open to constructive engagement with all stakeholders, especially the media. He also said the Public Relations Unit would be strengthened to give press matters prompt attention, maintain steady contact with journalists and help build mutual understanding between the command and the public.
