Oil major, TotalEnergies is speeding up on a broad slate of upstream and LNG projects across Africa, positioning the region as a key driver of production growth through 2026 and beyond.
The company’s African portfolio accounts for roughly half of its operated production and remains its largest area of exploration spending.
Several projects are now moving into execution and development phases, APO Group reported.
In the Republic of Congo, TotalEnergies committed $500 million in 2025 to drill additional wells at the Moho Nord field, targeting incremental output of approximately 40,000 bpd. The asset already represents about half of the country’s oil production.
In East Africa, Uganda’s Tilenga project is advancing toward first oil, supported by the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), which will transport crude to Tanzania’s port of Tanga. The development is expected to play a key role in unlocking Uganda’s oil resources.
In Mozambique, the company is working toward restarting its $20-billion LNG project, with planned capacity of 13 MMtpa. The project is considered a cornerstone for monetizing the country’s gas reserves and is expected to contribute significantly to future output growth.
Frontier exploration is also progressing. In Namibia, TotalEnergies is targeting a final investment decision on the Venus discovery in the Orange basin by late 2026.
In South Africa, the company is preparing to drill Block 3B/4B, pending final approvals, as exploration activity accelerates in the region.
Across its portfolio, TotalEnergies continues to prioritize gas monetization and emissions reduction initiatives, including zero routine flaring in several African operations and ongoing investments in gas and power projects.
