Two Die At Katsina Wedding Ceremony

The Katsina Police Command has confirmed the death of two persons during a wedding ceremony in the state.

According to spokesman of the Command Gambo Isah, “On 04/04/2020 at about 18:00hrs, a distress call was received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mani Division that one Musa Suleiman, m, aged 25yrs of Ali Yaba village, Mani LGA of Katsina state conspired along with one Shafa’atu Sirajo, aged 20yrs of the same address and administered a noxious substance, known in Hausa as “ZAQAMI” in the food that was served to the guests in a wedding ceremony.

Consequently, nineteen persons that ate the food fell ill and became unconscious.  The DPO and team evacuated the victims to Mani General Hospital for treatment.  Two of the victims Bilkisu Surajo, f, 20yrs and Ibrahim Sani, aged 13yrs both of Niger Republic were confirmed died by the attending physician while the rest admitted for treatment.  Suspects Musa Suleiman and Shafa’atu Sirajo have been arrested and confessed to the commission of the offence.  Investigation is ongoing.”

Isah, also reported that the Command, “On 7th and 9th April, 2020 between the hours of 0012 – 0500hrs, Operation Puff Adder led by DPO Batsari foiled cattle rustling at Dan-Alhaji and Zamfarawa villages, arrested one Abubakar Maiunguwa Alti, m, aged 26yrs of Dogon Dutsen Akata Fullani Camp, Batsari LGA of Katsina, a notorious bandit, and recovered herd of cows.  In the course of investigation suspect confessed to be a participie criminie in various attacks on villages in Batsari LGA of Katsina.  Investigation is ongoing.
