United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, is set to make a powerful impact at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), taking place from September 15th to 25th, 2025. The bank will bring together world leaders, policymakers, investors, and private sector stakeholders to highlight Africa’s vast opportunities and promote dialogue aimed at unlocking the continent’s economic potential.

A centerpiece of UBA’s participation will be the launch of a groundbreaking whitepaper titled “Banking on Africa’s Future: Unlocking Capital and Partnerships for Sustainable Growth.” This first-of-its-kind report from a leading African financial institution at the UNGA outlines actionable strategies focused on trade, infrastructure, digital innovation, climate finance, and inclusive growth. It aims to shift the narrative by positioning Africa as a key driver of global prosperity through strengthened collaboration with international partners.

In addition to unveiling the whitepaper, UBA will host the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) Roundtable via UBA America, alongside its annual UBA Reception. These events will convene influential leaders and business executives to engage in critical discussions on investment and development opportunities across Africa.

UBA Group Chairman Tony Elumelu highlighted the importance of turning dialogue into action. He stressed that UBA’s leadership role in these conversations reflects a commitment to driving real investment and sustainable growth on the continent. “This year’s discussions are aimed at delivering feasible outcomes, and UBA is committed to ensuring these results are implemented for Africa’s benefit,” Elumelu stated. He emphasized the significance of UNGA as the largest global assembly of world leaders, asserting that UBA must lead efforts to showcase Africa’s potential on this vital platform.

UBA Group Managing Director and CEO Oliver Alawuba underscored the whitepaper’s importance and called on more private sector players to demonstrate measurable commitment to Africa’s development, beyond rhetoric.

With over 25,000 employees serving more than 45 million customers, UBA is one of Africa’s largest financial institutions. Operating across 20 African countries as well as in the UK, USA, France, and the UAE, UBA delivers retail, commercial, and institutional banking services while pioneering financial inclusion through innovative technology.
