The policemen stationed at the entrances to the street where Senator Dino Melaye resides in Abuja have disclosed that they do not have a warrant to arrest the Kogi West Senatorial District representative but were just instructed to bring him.
The policemen disclosed this during an interaction with some senators who sought to known the position of things.
The policemen had arrived the area shortly after Melaye slipped out of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where he was stopped from travelling to Morocco for an official engagement.
Among the senators who interacted with the policemen, led by an officer in mufti, were Attah Idoko, Abiodun Olujimi, Philip Adudua and Rafiu Ibrahim.
The police had invited Melaye for an interview at its Kogi State Police Command Headquarters in Lokoja.
But the senator had refused to honour the invitation.
He was accused of gun running based on a confession by a suspect.
As at press time, the stern looking policemen in two patrol vans, were turning people back from the street.
The senators have also resolved to involve the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, in the issue.
Their contention is that Melaye should be allowed to report himself to the police instead of arresting him.
