A woman who was accused of sorcery in Delta State and put inside cage for years has been discovered.

She was rescued three years after she was locked up in a cage by her husband.

The woman, identified as Gladys, who is a mother to eight children; was locked up by her husband after she was dubbed a witch in Orerokpe in Delta state.

A Nigerian Human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, who shared the story; said the woman is from Ozoro in Delta state but got married to a man from Orerokpe.

He said the husband as well as his family members, after many years of marriage, accused the lady of being a witch; and threw her into a cage they built in his compound.

He wrote:

“ACCUSED OF WITCHCRAFT AND CAGED FOR MORE THAN 3-YEARS IN OREROKPE, DELTA STATE.

We received this few hours ago and we are currently in Orerokpe for her full REHABILITATION and the arrest and prosecution of all those involved in this despicable act.

All road leads to OREROKPE.”

According to Harrison, the husband despite accusing his wife of being a witch made his way into the cage where she was left to die; and was still having sex with her.

She had three of their children while she was in the cage.

Harrison stated that his organization, Behind Bars Initiative, got wind of the woman’s deplorable state on Monday, November 16.

He and his team arrived in Orerokpe Tuesday morning, November 17; and have also moved the lady to the General Hospital in Orerokpe for treatment.
