World Federation Of Trade Unions President Arrives Nigeria

The PRESIDENT of the WORLD FEDERATION OF TRADE UNIONS (WFTU) Comrade Mzwandile Michael Makwayiba who was elected to this enviable office at the 17th Congress of the World Federation of Trade Unions, held in October 2016 in Durban, South Africa, arrives Lagos, Nigeria today 23rd January 2017, on a three day working visit, as Nigerian affiliates both in the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress are in solidarity mood to welcome him to Nigeria.

Coming aboard South African Airways, the august visitor shall be met on arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, by the leadership of various affiliate Unions from where he shall be driven in a convoy to his hotel for the night.

On Tuesday, 24th January, Comrade Makwayiba shall meet with Nigerian affiliates and other leaders of prospective members before proceeding to Abuja 25th January 2017, for another round of discussions with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at the Labour House, Abuja.

On return to Lagos with his team on 25th January, the WFTU President shall also meet with the leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), after which he will address a Press Conference on various labour issues in general and particularly as Nigeria is planning to host the forthcoming Pan African Congress of the WFTU in July 2017.

As you may be aware, the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) was established in Paris, France in 1945 and represents over eighty six million (86) workers in more than one hundred and twenty six (126) countries around the world, with its Corporate Secretariat at 40 Zan Moreas Street, Athens, Greece.
