The permanent secretary federal ministry of aviation Binta Bello has urged stakeholders in the sector to demonstrate openness and de-emphasise ego and competition so as to move the industry forward.
Bello said competition is desirable to make the business thrive on innovation but if a ‘Win-Win’ situation is to be achieved cooperation and compromise should be established or seen as more important than competition.
Speaking at the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) seminar in Lagos today, with the theme “Achieving a Win-Win Aviation Sector in Nigeria, Bello noted that a Win-Win situation is one by which cooperation, compromise, or group participation leads to all participants benefit”.
She said the term can be applied to many aspects of daily living and it is contrasted to the Zero-Sum game or Win-Lose situation, where the dominant factor is that at least one person wins while another loses.
She noted that “the basis for a win-win situation is that compromise and cooperation must be more or at least as important as ego and compromise. Everyone likes to ‘Win’ but the question raised to create the win-win situation is : How can a situation be established where nobody loses? It’s hard to create a win-win situations when people are selfish and egotistically if they don’t care whether their personal gains result in someone else losses”.
Bello said the ministry recognises the importance of creating the win-win situations in the sector which informs the regular stakeholder meetings and forums organised to carry every one along in policy decisions.
She this prompted composition of the ministerial committee that was made up of diverse professional from both public and private sectors to advise government on the national carrier.
The committee she disclosed has forwarded its report and is awaiting federal governments direction on the matter.
