The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) last weekend suspended two of its officers accused of being involved in trafficking of persons abroad.
In a statement issued by the spokesman of the Service, Mr Sunday James, the officers identified as Araoyinbo Oluwwadare (SII) and Awosanmi Taiwo Gabriel (IA1) were said to have committed the act at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos.
According to the statement, “Following the incident of an alleged attempt by the above mentioned personnel at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Ikeja to aid and abet trafficking of some persons abroad, the Comptroller General, Muhammad Babandede, has ordered their suspension from duties with immediate effect in line with service rules and regulations.
“The suspension is to allow for detailed investigation into the issue with a view to unravelling their level of culpability and indeed other syndicates involved in the act.
“The comptroller general therefore assures the public of management’s commitment to the eradication of smuggling of migrants and trafficking of persons activities in the country.”
