Blue Lagos Initiatives has signed a major healthcare deal with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) to roll out a telemedicine programme targeting 152 riverine and coastal communities across Lagos State. The partnership aims to remove distance and transportation barriers that have long limited access to quality medical care in these hard-to-reach areas.
The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting between Blue Lagos, led by Convener Mr. Saheed Adesanya, and LASHMA’s management team under Permanent Secretary Dr. Emmanuella Zamba. Both sides explored technology-driven healthcare solutions to serve underserved populations and strengthen the delivery of essential medical services throughout the state.
Under the new scheme, residents in the 152 communities will be able to consult doctors remotely, receive medical advice, access referrals, obtain follow-up care, and connect with other critical health services without needing to travel far. This is expected to significantly reduce delays in treatment and improve overall health outcomes.
Mr. Adesanya called the partnership a landmark step toward lifting healthcare standards in coastal and riverine areas. “Healthcare is a basic right for every citizen. This collaboration shows our joint determination to ensure that people in riverine and coastal communities are not excluded from quality medical care. Using technology, we can close existing gaps and bring health services directly to the people,” he said.
Dr. Zamba reaffirmed LASHMA’s commitment to expanding healthcare coverage and advancing universal health access in Lagos State. She highlighted the importance of using technology and strategic partnerships to reach vulnerable populations that have historically been difficult to serve.
The telemedicine initiative is expected to strengthen preventive care, lower barriers to consultation, improve health outcomes, and provide thousands of residents with reliable access to professional medical support.
Both organizations plan to continue working together on implementation details, community sensitisation, stakeholder engagement, and partnership frameworks to ensure the programme is rolled out successfully and remains sustainable over time. The initiative supports the Lagos State Government’s broader goal of inclusive development and improving living standards for all residents, regardless of where they live.
