Starlink, has announced a hike in its monthly subscription prices in Nigeria, effective immediately for new customers and starting January 27, 2025, for existing users.
The company stated that the price adjustments are necessary to enhance its network infrastructure and maintain the delivery of high-quality internet service across the country.
The new pricing structure shows Standard (Residential) N75,000, Mobile – Regional (Roam Unlimited) N167,000, and Mobile – Global (Global Roam) N717,000.
“These changes reflect our commitment to investing in the infrastructure needed to support and improve your experience with Starlink,” the company said.
The operator added that subscribers who no longer wish to continue with the service were informed of the option to cancel their subscription at any time.
In September, Starlink attempted a price hike that saw a 97 per cent increase, from N38,000 to N75,000 monthly. It cites inflation as the reason for the adjustment.
However, the Nigerian Communications Commission initially announced that it would sanction Starlink for this unauthorized increase.
With the announcement Starlink temporarily suspended the price hike and promised credits to affected customers while navigating these regulatory challenges.
Starlink launched its operations in Nigeria in December 2022, becoming the first African country to receive the satellite-based internet service. While it has been praised for providing internet access to remote and underserved areas, the company has faced criticism for its pricing model, which some argue is beyond the reach of the average Nigerian.
