As the Nigeria National Petroleum company (NNPC) intensifies distribution of kerosene, the agency has assured that the people of Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State would now buy kerosene at the rate of N50 against the previous rate of N130 per litre.

The corporation added that the programme was to eliminate exploitation which would continue for three months with the product being sold at 12 NNPC stations across the state including two floating stations at Ibaka and Uta ewa.

Some residents in the area who spoke with journalists expressed appreciation over the development at the flag-off of NNPC ‘Kero Correct’ programme aimed at making kerosene available to citizens in the right quality and quantity.

Addressing the crowd of buyers, the NNPC coordinator of ‘Kero Correct’ programme for South-south zone, Mrs. Edith Johnson, said the gesture was aimed at eliminating all forms of exploitation.

Johnson, who is the Manager, Public Affairs in Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited, said NNPC was committed to reaching  the local people directly with kerosene through the ‘Kero Correct’ programme.

Johnson, represented by the Community Relations Officer for Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited, Mr. Robert Obizie, informed the people that each buyer was entitled to 25 litres at a time.

The ‘Kero Correct’ programme was  commenced off on January 23 in Abuja by the Public Affairs Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mr. Ohi Alegbe.

The programme was designed to sell kerosene in 37 NNPC mega stations, 524 affiliate stations and 12 floating stations across the country continuously for three months.
